What is a sharqubus?
Once upon a time (high school), I had a nickname: Sharqy (pronounced: Shar-key). In the spirit of being unique, I opted to spell it with a Q instead of a K (do you have any idea how many people have the nickname Sharky? Saruman for one…) because Qs make a K sound when not followed by a U (I may have made that up). At some point, I set myself up on AOL Instant Messenger (haha, remember when that was popular? Don’t make fun of me, it was like 1998).
When I was setting up my screen-name, I distinctly remembered people who had never been on the internet and watched too much Dateline (so, like, everyone I’m related to) telling me that the only people on the internet were porn stars and child molesters. I decided to incorporate that into my name as a joke!
See, an incubus is a mythical demon, often described as a vampire, that sexually preys on young women (a succubus is the female version). So I took my nickname and that word and combined them into SharQubus (which, btw is pronounced Shark-you-biss).
Anyway, there you have it. I guarantee it’s unique and if you Google “sharqubus” it will lead you to one of my pages / things I’ve commented on / pages or posts I’ve liked (mostly tumblr re-blogs). :)
